Writer - Ty Templeton with Dan Slott

Art - Matt Clark

Summary:

Following the death of Silver Sable, Spider-Man recalls a previous adventure. He recalls a time when Silver Sable wanted to hire him to marry a princess of Symkaria. Being the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, the young woman could potentially be the mother of the next sorcerer supreme or be the next one herself. Her father however has promised her to Doom in order to cement relations between their two countries. With so much mystic potential, Dr. Strange wants to stop Doom from marrying her. To that effect, Sable wants Spider-Man to marry her. Before Spider-Man can decline, Doom attacks. The group manages to escape Doom, but only for the moment. When the princess learns that she must not only marry but consummate the marriage, she reveals that there is only one person she truly loves. Spider-Man collects the man she loves and rushes him to the embassy. While they get married the others keep Doom busy. As the battle escalates, its Silver Sable who is finally able to distract Doom long enough for the the newly weds to consummate. Once Doom senses that his chance has passed, he abandons the battle. Afterwards Spider-Man glimpses Sable smiling at the new couple for a brief moment. He realizes that she isn't always the cold mercenary.

Notes:

  • Sable mentions her friendship with Doom, see Silver Sable #4 - 5

  • Collected in Amazing Spider-Man: The Ends of the Earth

Comments:

Its nice to see a minor detail like Doom and Sable's friendship get a mention. Its too bad that the events of this issue mean that Doom and Sable probably stopped having their yearly get-together. But then again, I'm an optimist. Maybe he didn't hold a grudge and invited her anyway. The point however is moot as this adventure takes place in the past and she's dead in the present. The plot was fun without being silly. The art by Matt Clark was also very good. All in all, I liked seeing some interaction between Doom and Sable, though I would have preferred a team-up.

Bottom Line:  * * * out of 5
