In the past, The Black Panther faces Doom with the Dora Milaje at his side. Using the auto-pilot, one of the female warriors uses the ship's on-board weapons to destroy Doom's accompanying Doombots. The real Doom blasts Black Panther point blank. The other warrior sneaks up behind Doom and fires her weapon at point blank range at him. While he is momentarily disabled, The other Dora Milaje pilots the ship away with the wounded Black Panther inside. As Doom recovers, he grabs hold of the Dora Milaje who remained behind. Issue - 3 Title - The Deadliest of the Species Part 3 Writer - Reginald Hudlin Art - Ken Lashley
Summary: T'Challa recalls the attack which 'killed' him.
Comments: Doom's previous appearance in the pages of Black Panther is among my least favorites. Thankfully Doom's role in these issues is mercifully brief. He just shows up and near fatally beats Black Panther. He isn't around long enough to be written badly. This appearance certainly counts as a victory for Doom. The brutality of it will hopefully be something not forgotten should these two characters meet again, although given the light warning with which Doom got off with in Doomwar, perhaps its already water under the bridge. So while there is nothing really wrong with this appearance, the lack of a significant follow-through in Doomwar stops me from rating it higher. Bottom Line ** out of 5 |
