Title
- ...And I'll get the land.
Writer - Jonathan Hickman
Art - Adi Granov
Summary:
After the first meeting of Norman Osborn's Cabal, Doom and Namor are the only two who remain in the room. Namor asks Doom how this new development affects their plans, Doom replies that all is the same. They just wait for Norman Osborn's plans to implode. One year later, Osborn calls another meeting and is surprised to find that only Doom and Namor show up. Finding that circumstances have changed, Osborn decides to eliminate them both. However Doom now possesses the Hood's cape and hood and a cosmic cube. He uses both to eliminate Osborn's armor as well as his Avengers. Namor then kills Osborn. With the other Osborn dead, Namor asks what they will do with the women (Loki and White Queen). Doom says they are already where they belong. Doom is suddenly stirred from his thoughts. He and Namor are in the present, following the first Cabal meeting and walking to their crafts. Namor asks if he is ignoring him. Doom apologies and explains his thoughts wandered for a moment. Namor wonders what goes on in Doom's mind. We then see Doom is once more imagining his one year later scenario and in it he is killing Namor.

I haven't read the other stories yet, but from these two, the plot of Dark Reign doesn't seem to progress very much. This one shot just provides us with a glimpse at the nature of the various Cabal members. Each member gets his own short story except, surprisingly, Osborn. I know he's not on the cover, but I imagined that as the 'leader' he would get something. In any case, the two stories featuring Doom are ok. Of the two, my personal favorite was Dinner with Doom. I enjoyed the way his interaction with Loki was handled. It nicely fills in the blanks for anyone who has not been buying every single issue of Thor looking for a Doom appearance.
I had to read the other story twice before I realized it was all in Doom's head. Maybe I am getting old? I missed the detail that he goes from a red cape to green cape. The transition just flew right pass me. Anyway, this was again, an ok story. I'm a little surprised at Doom's idea of Loki and White Queen's 'place'. Its definitely the best looking Loki has been since he became a she (see Secret Invasion: Dark Reign for a truly horrible depiction). That said, Adi Granov does a great job with the art chores here. Coming off the heels of the recent revelation that Doom has been a in a relationship with Morgana, I must say that Doom hasn't been this sexual in a long time....if ever. Doom is typically A-Sexual. Its very rare indeed for him to express any interest in the opposite sex. So long as it stays in his imagination, its ok with me. Overall, I hope that Dark Reign has more to offer down the line. Bottom Line: ** out of 5
