Comments:

This has not been a series that I have enjoyed. Coming off the heels of quite possibly some of the best Doom appearances of the past few years in Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four run, Matt Fraction and Lee Allred's Fantastic Four / FF run swings the pendulum in the opposite direction. I might be reading too much in between the lines, but it seems to purposefully poke fun at and attack elements of Hickman's run. In response to Hickman's Council of Reeds, we get a Council of Doom. One scene in particular from the finale seems to take a shot at the merits of the character and anyone who thinks he has any. Scott Lang decries anyone who thinks Doom is nuanced, layered, or deep. For certain the Doom presented to us in this series lacks any of those qualities. Fans of 'Unthinkable' and Super-Villain Team-Up #7, rejoice...this is the series for you. This is your Doom.

Me? I'm just going to reread Fantastic Four Annual #2, Astonishing Tales #8, Triumph and Torment, Books of Doom, Doom 2099, just to name a few of the stories that feature a nuanced, layered and deep character I used to know. I'm sure he'll turn up again soon.

Bottom Line: * out of 5
