Counter-Earth was the creation of the being known as the High Evolutionary. The planet was created as part of his large scale experiments with human/animal evolution. However his world was plagued by a devilish rogue creation of his called Man-Beast. The Man-Beast did all he could to disrupt the natural course of things and battle the High Evolutionary's son, Adam Warlock. On this earth, Victor von Doom and Reed Richards were friends. The accident that drove Victor von Doom to hide behind an iron mask of ego and superiority instead here gave Doom a need to repay Reed Richards for the friendship and support that he gave him after the accident. Doom joined Reed to work for the government and watched as his friend rocketed into space. Doom returned the support given to him when Reed and his three friends crash landed on earth.
Later, Doctor Doom would become a prominent scientist who had the ear of the president. This would change for the worse when Rex Carpenter ascended to power and began a campaign against Adam Warlock. Doom bore witness to Warlock's heroic efforts and helped Warlock in spite of the president's orders. Doom tried to call for Reed's help but found him to be too busy with his own experiments. In fact, Richards had discovered that his flight into space had not left him unaffected but was turning him into the Brute. As the Brute, his mind was taken control of by a mysterious being who ordered him to kill Warlock. Warlock defeated him and Reed was restored. Unfortunately Reed was forced once more to become the Brute. Weakened from his battle with Warlock, Brute sought out Doom and used his Earth-Corer to dig into the center of Counter-Earth in order to replenish himself with geo-thermal energy. Doom and Warlock followed Brute where Doom managed to use his invention to suck the Brute energy away and restore Reed back to human form. The radiation overload was too great and Doom died so that it might be contained. Moved by his sacrifice, Warlock erected a large statue of Doom from the molten rock left after the explosion.
