Title
- Life in Wartime
Issue - 13
Writer - James Robinson
Art - Mike Weiringo
Summary:
The planet is embroiled in a third world war. Doom has allied himself with the Skrull and the Daemonites in a struggle to dominate the Earth.
Comments:
No actual appearance, rather a series of panels explain the changes caused by the merging of the Wildstorm universe with the Heroes Reborn Marvel universe. Among them is a panel showing Doom and explaining that he has betrayed humanity in order to ally himself with Skrulls and a species I am not familiar with, Daemonites. It is very odd, but this issue doesn't read as an FF issue; instead the WW3 event seems to have completely taken over the narrative. Notable is that the issue is drawn by Mike Weiringo. Years later he became regular artist on the FF title and the Unthinkable arc. Bottom Line: Skip It!
Title - Winning and Losing
Issue - 13
Writer - James Robinson
Art - Michael Ryan
Summary:
Doom and his allies observe the plans of Earth's remaining heroes and plan their attack against them. Although the heroes manage to launch most of their forces for their final wave of attacks, their base is destroyed taking with a great number of them.
Comments:
A rather brief appearance. Doom pushes
the Skrulls around in the "alliance" and demonstrates that he is at the forefront
of the trio. Other than that its just another brief scene showing Doom's ruthlessness
in what is technically and alternate Heroes Reborn Doom who is himself an alternate
Doom. Bottom Line: Skip It!
Title -
No Time to Mourn
Issue -13
Writer - James Robinson
Art - Larry Stroman
Summary:
As Reed Richards leads his strike team into the Negative Zone, Doom prepares his own army to meet him in battle.
Comments:
Not much. A little insight is given as to the origin of Doom's allegiance with the Skrulls and Daemonites. Unclear is if Doom is aware of the Pre-World War 3 Heroes Reborn universe. Not much else here. Bottom Line: Skip It!
Title -
War Without End
Issue - 13
Writer - James Robinson
Art - Ron Lim
Summary:
Captain America leads a coalition of the remaining super-heroes and US forces from America to invade Latveria. In the Negative Zone, Reed Richards and his forces battle to destroy the dimensional lock keeping the two universes merged. As Reed and Doom fight, Hadrian and Scarlet Witch reach the lock and Hadrian releases a nano-tech virus disabling the dimensional lock located in the Negative Zone. Back in Latveria, Captain America and Cray breach the castle and reach the lock located there. A Daemonite appears and Cray lunges towards it pushing them both through the Negative Zone portal. Disguised as Sue Storm, the Skrull Leader appears and manages to shoot Cap, but he decapitates the alien with his shield. Rick Jones, a soldier Cap met on the plane to Latveria, makes it into the chamber and finds Cap. Cap orders him to throw a grenade into the portal and thus destroying the lock. On the other side of the portal, the universes begin to pull apart. Doom and Reed watch as everything fades to white, and as Doom vows to rule again, Reed vows that he and the Fantastic Four will be there to stop him.
Comments:
Having never read anything by Wildstorm, I have a hard time judging this Marvel/Wildstorm cross over. The Daemonites seem like interesting villains. The art by Ron Lim is very good, as always. The writer has the difficult task of writing so many characters from two distinctive universes, and I think he does a pretty good job. Of the four parts, part four I enjoyed the best. Bottom Line: *** out of 5
