Writer - Christopher
Priest
Art - Sal Velluto
Summary:
When the Black Panther refuses to return a child of
Deviant Lemuria back to her home where certain death awaits her, Deviant
Lemuria declares war on Wakanda. Shortly after Black Panther has his forces
surround the undersea city. Namor and Doom meet with Black Panther to talk of
the escalating situation. Namor pleads with the Panther to stand down his army,
or else he will need to join the conflict. Doom meanwhile remains neutral on the
subject and simply counsels the Wakandan king to make peace with Namor and
return the girl. The Panther remains steadfast on his stance and goes to meet in
an emergency session of the UN. Doom declines to attend as the matter is of no
interest to Latveria. At the meeting, T'Challa along with everyone else is
shocked to see that one of the Panther's ships has fired on a US carrier.
Notes:
Cameo only
Latveria has a non-aggression pact with Atlantis. The pact however does not make them de-facto allies in time of war.

Title - The Trade of Kings
Writer - Christopher
Priest
Art - Sal Velluto
Summary:
In the aftermath of a forged attack on a US carrier, Black
Panther meets with Magneto, Doom, and Warlord Kro of Lemuria regarding
the latest developments over the child. Magneto confirms to T'Challa that
he will stand with Atlantis. Doom continues to be neutral, however warning that
they should avoid getting him involved because then he will be sure everyone
suffers the consequences. Namor appears and joins the meeting. Black Panther
explains that he does not want to return the child because the child has psionic
powers which he believes Ghuar will use to create an Anti-Mind. The High Priest
did this once before in attempt to attack the Celestials, an act which
threatened the universe. Eventually all agree that someone else, other than
Ghaur attacked the carrier. The Panther sets about seeking that person out while
one of his aides tries to find out Ghaur's plans for the child.
Comments:
Although Doom only makes a minor cameo appearance in both
of these issues, Priest clearly has a good take on the character. He also shines
in creating a realistic, politically charged plot which incorporates not only
Doom, but also Namor and Magento and their statuses as monarchs. Really good
stuff. Priest's realistic plotting is also on stage in his (to date) only other
story featuring Doom, Masks. It would be cool to see what else he could do with
the character.
Bottom Line: *** out of 5
Notes:
Cameo only
Doom mentions he is Zefiro.
Doom attends the meeting as a hologram being projected from Planet Doom.
