issue-25 [vol3]
writer-Chris Claremont
pencils-Salvador Lorroca
Summary:
Doom returns to the Earth of his birth with an army whose sole purpose is to
destroy the Dreaming Celestial. Having clued in the FF the opposing forces
now join together in a last ditch effort to save the Earth and "Planet Doom." Doom
and Reed manage to trap the Dreaming Celestial in a prison that had held
him previously for thousands of years but at a price. In the aftermath Reed
Richards disappears.
Comments:
Claremont's Doom is methodical, intelligent and thoughtful. Not exactly Doom
2099 but a step in the right direction. His concern for his own home world
as well as his adopted one is evident. This issue serves as a kick off for
the following arc which is Claremont's little ode to Dumas' Man in the Iron
Mask.

issue-26-28 [vol3]
writer-Chris Claremont

Summary:
In the aftermath of the battle between Doom, Reed, and the
Dreraming Celestial, Reed is trapped inside Doom's armor. Unbeknownst by anyone
but the FF, Reed must now tread carefully to keep Doom's remaining army from
conquering the planet Earth. Hoping to keep his war hungry army at bay, Doom
[Reed] takes Sue as the Baroness Von Doom. However even with this, he is unable
to fully control Doom's "generals" and they begin an attack on Earth without
Doom's [Reed's] orders. After an ensuing battle between Doom [Reed] together
with the FF and the Avengers against the generals, Doom [Reed] surrenders his
generals over to the Earth's authorities. Reed orders Lancer to return to Planet
Doom with army intact and to search for the real Doom on their planet.
Comments:
Man in the Iron Mask a'la FF. To be honest, I sort of wanted the real Doom
to
head the FF for awhile. Anyway, one big highlight, "Doom" marries Sue. That would
make the first MARVEL character to get married twice, wouldn't it? Doom for now
is AWOL. At the time of the issues publication no one knew where he was but after
this and the following arc were concluded, MARVEL saw fit to tell the tale of
where Doom had been all this time in his own miniseries.
Much is made of how Sue is becoming Baroness Von Doom for life, however to my
knowledge, Doom has never come out and said
that he has divorced her.
