Title- Once Upon a Time...

Issue- 12

Writer- Howard Mackie

Art- Cary Nord

Summary:

As the Goblin Queen devastates the United States of America, Doom leads the joint armies of Europe to aid Havok and his forces against her.

Comments:

Just a few scattered appearances. Despite the cover appearance, Doom does not contribute much here. Doom's costume design here seems to be patterned after Leo Manco's post Heroes Reborn armor-less look. While it is nice to see a non-villain Doom ala 2099, he isn't a major player in the title so unfortunately there is not much to recommend. Bottom Line: Skip It!

Title- The Key

Writer- Howard Mackie

Art- James Fry

Summary:

The Beyonder is reawakened and he wants Havok who is his key to connecting to all the multiverses. Doom joins the world's heroes as they battle him, and like the others, dies.

Comments:

Doom gets honorable mention here as one of the guys that put the Beyonder away the first time in this universe. However this second time around Doom dies alongside an army of heroes as they charge him. Or does he? I guess the Beyonder got stronger because he just sort of snaps his fingers and the heroes all blow up. With just a panel and a half appearance and the later revelation that this is a Doombot, Bottom Line: Skip It!

Summary:

The Beyonder's rampaging search for Havok continues. Doom resurfaces, revealing that he sent a Doombot in his place at the previous battle. This time Doom leads the Inhumans in a desperate battle against the combined force of the Beyonder and Dracula. Ultimately however he and his forces are defeated and fed upon by the Dracula.

Comments:

Doom returns....to die again. Still, this send off is a whole lot better than the Annual appearance. It is a real nice moment, almost reminds me of 2099. Maybe its because we are getting Doom drawn by Ron Lim! I could swear that the red character flying above Doom is Bloodhawk from X-Men 2099. Interesting is that Doom's death is not shown, however his face mask is subtly shown in the Beyonder's hand, implying that this was his final death. This also happens to be the final issue of this curious series. Frankly I am not a fan of either alternate universes nor X-titles, however I was always interested in picking this series up. Probably because for some reason I had the feeling that the series would be self contained. That aside, despite the nice send off, there's once again nothing here to recommend for Doom fans. Bottom Line: Skip It!
