Summary:
When a nuclear device is test detonated underneath the San Andreas fault, a massive earth quake threaten the west coast. Adam Warlock lends a hand with the disaster relief but then faces an attack by the Death Birds, forbidden weapons that were hidden by the US government and unearthed by the quake. Warlock receives aid from none other than Doctor Victor von Doom. When Warlock is then blamed for the quake, Warlock is forced to battle the US military. Doom having seen his heroic deeds tries to convince the president to no avail. Unknown to Doom or Warlock, Reed Richards' fateful space flight has turned him into the Brute. As the Brute, Reed is forced to hunt Warlock. Warlock defeats him and discovers his true identity. later, the Brute is summoned into being again and seeks out Doom for energy to replenish himself. Using an invention of Doom's, the Brute digs into the Earth's core threatening the existence of the planet. Doom travels with Warlock to chase the Brute and ultimately sacrifices his life in order to restore his friend back to normal and to contain the explosion that would have destroyed Counter-Earth.
Comments:
As alternate Doom's go this is pretty unique. He's actually a good guy with
no strings attached. Issue 4 features another in the long line of last page
cliffhanger reveals and therefore should be skipped. The in between issues are
okay but if you really want to track this one down, I recommend issue 7 the
most. Bottom Line: Read It!
