the floating city of Valhalla. Landing on the city, they are greeted by Doom. In
Hong Kong, Fortune, Lei Fong, and Morkovkin are once more found by demon
assassins. They quickly elude them and board a taxi which will take them to a
shuttle launch. Fortune presses Lei for a full explanation of what has happened
to her brother. Lei then recounts that Kaz was found preserved inside an alien
spacecraft buried for centuries in the Himalayas. When Kaz was awakened, he
spoke an alien language. In Latveria, Doom discovers that Earth has been
abandoned by the interstellar empires. His scanner finds only one signal

find Poet inside, and together they board the shuttle and lift off. Morkovkin

Title - Radian and Reunion
Issue - 17
Writer - John Francis Moore [plot] Peter David [script]
Art - Pat Broderick
Summary:
Inside the alien craft, Doom responds to the alien's attack with one of his
own, but it is not effective. The alien holds him captive and attempts to
communicate by showing him an image of the Chin Shan space platform. Aboard the
platform, Feng Huang renders Lei unconscious and has Morkovkin thrown out into
space. Feng Huang allows Fortune to see Kaz. Fortune is horrified that he seems
mindless. Feng explains that is exactly how he was found and that she only wants
to use him to make contact with the aliens who reprogrammed his mind. At that
moment, the alien appears with Doom in tow. The alien removes his helmet and
reveals that he is called Radian, of the Y'lestja. He begins to communicate with
Kaz. Not seeing an opportunity to gain anything from this, Feng decides to kill
Radian in order to learn more from an autopsy. Doom intervenes and deflects her
shot which inadvertently strikes Kaz instead. Radian
then announces that the Y'lestja have arrived.

Title - Communion
Issue - 18
Writer - John Francis Moore
Art - Pat Broderick
Summary:
Despite being grazed by Feng's blast, the Y'lestja begin their ceremony of
communion with the humans on the bridge of the space platform. The Y'lestja, a
collective consciousness enter the minds of those on the bridge and shares with
the experiences and sensations of all the places they have visited in their
cosmic journeys. The communion offers each of them a glimpse into magnificence
of the universe in order to provide understanding. Radian explains that they
have come now because the human race is approaching a crossroads. Once the
ceremony is over, the Y'lestja reveal that they are pleased with Radian service
and grant him his freedom. After the collective departs, Feng kills Radian. She
also activates the station self-destruct and leaves Doom and the others to die.
Doom overrides the locks in the system and allows them to reach the escape pods,
but he commands the others to go ahead without out saying he will follow in the
remaining pod. Once they are gone, Doom returns to the bridge and finds Feng.
She planned for everyone to leave so that she could keep Radian's armor. Feng
attempts to kill Doom but fails. With no more time to stop the self destruct and
stop Doom from taking the armor, the station explodes.
Notes:
-
Radian mentions that through
the communion, Feng Huang has been changed somehow by the Y'lestja. Her
"mark" is never revealed, but Doom 2099 #43 confirms that all of them were
in fact changed in someway. Fortune much later realizes that her ability to
tell the future was enhanced. Kaz becomes a champion of light and don's Radian's
armor. Doom and Poet's gifts are never revealed.
-
Feng Huang's fate is revealed in a back-up story in Doom 2099 #25.
-
Despite his apparent 'death,' Radian was meant to survive. A story
showing what follows the events of this issue was completed, but never published. You can
read that unpublished story here.
