Title: Mr. O'Hara Goes to Washington

Summary:

On the road back to Nueva York, Miguel is lifted out of Xina's car. SHIELD agents inform him that Tyler Stone has requested his presence at the White House. In Washington, Dana calls Tyler Stone to see if he's working late again. Stone answers that unfortunately he does, since Doom took over, there is a great deal for him to do. After the call is over, someone sneaks up behind Dana and knocks her unconscious. Miguel is brought before Doom and Tyler. Doom explains that Tyler is now his corporate minister. Stone then reveals that he wants Miguel to take over his old job as V.P. of Alchemax's R&D division. Later, Kasey and Gabe freshly back in Nueva York are attacked by Fenris gang members. After Gabe fails to fend them off, Kasey questions Gabe why he didn't fight them. Gabe confesses that he isn't Spider-Man. When Kasey doesn't believe him, he storms off. Meanwhile, Spider-Man observes some SHIELD agents harrassing Spiderites. Spider-Man begins to defend them until Doom intervenes. He allows the Spiderites a pass to protest so long as they do it peaceably. He also offers Spider-Man a job as Minister of Supernormal Affairs. Meanwhile, Tyler Stone arrives home and is shot by Conchata.

 



Title: Bullies

Summary:

Miguel and Xina eavesdrop on Angela and Tyler Stone talking about Kron. Tyler makes it clear that he wants Kron to remain in the school. Angela likewise makes it clear that he isn't. She puts in a call to Tyler's father-in-law, Herod.

 

Notes:

  • First mention that Herod is Tyler's father-in-law. It had been previously hinted that Tyler's father-in-law was someone of great importance.

 

 

 


 

Issue: 35

Title: Blood from a Stone

Summary:

Dana awakens and escape the bonds which her unknown assailant placed on her. When she leaves her room she finds Tyler Stone shot. Stone is later rushed away by medics. In Nueva York, Spider-Man receives a reminder of Doom's offer to join him. He also get a warning about what would happen if he turns down the job. Meanwhile, Doom tells Dana that Tyler has been transferred to medical facilities in New York. Elsewhere, a Fenris ganger informs Bloodmace (formerly Bloodaxe / Bloodhammer) that Stone has been shot. Bloodmace decides now is the perfect time for him to lead the Fenris in an attack on Alchemax. Suddenly a black substance rises from the sewer and takes on a human shape. The creature asks for more details on Stone's condition. When Bloodmace attacks it, the creature kills him. At his apartment, Miguel receives a visit from Doom. Seeking an answer regarding the position of VP of the R&D division, Doom informs him of Stone's shooting. Miguel rushes to the hospital not because of Stone, but because he can't believe that Dana had moved in with him. The conversation is interrupted by the creature that killed Bloodmace. The creature recognizes Miguel and is pleased that both he and Tyler are there as he wants to kill them both, slowly. Miguel feigns being injured and runs off. He returns in costume and surprisingly, the creature recognizes him. The creature lunges towards Spider-Man revealing his name to be Venom.

 

Notes:

  • First appearance: Venom 2099.

  • From his first panel appearance, the border of the pages begins to progressively fill with Venom's black symbiote goo.

  • In a rare event for a 2099 title, this issue was released with a variant cover. The variant speaks much of the popularity of the Venom character in the 90s in that his own logo features on top, as if it were his comic. Also telling is that this would continue for all his appearances.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Issue: 36

Title: Venom

Summary:

Venom and Spider-Man's confrontation takes them crashing through the hospital window and plummeting downwards. Inside, Dana convinces the hospital staff that Tyler Stone must be moved for safety. Spider-Man manages to free himself from Venom's grip and grab hold of the hospital's outer wall. Venom splatters onto the ground below, but quickly reconstitutes himself. Meanwhile, Xina arrives and Miguel's apartment and learns from Lyla that he was offered Tyler Stone's job. Venom renews his attack but instead forces Spider-Man to chase him as he begin to slaughter innocents inside the hospital. SHIELD troops arrive and attempt to put Venom down and fail. After Venom has disappears, Spider-Man ponders on how his voice sounded familiar. Elsewhere, after blowing off Gabe (again), Kasey receives a visit from a mysterious figure who is looking for Spider-Man. Later, Xina visits Miguel in his new office after assuming Stone's old job. When Miguel ignores her because he's researching historical records on Venom, she storms out and runs into Dana. As the two greet each other, they realize that Winston, Miguel's assistant, is dead. Back in the office, Miguel hears the two screaming. Rushing out, he comes face to face with Venom who holds both women. Venom tells Miguel he gets to decide which one lives  and which one dies.

 

Notes:

  • Continuity Flub: In the panel depicting Xina and Dana's run-in, the dialogue balloons are reversed. Xina is exiting left and Dana is entering right. The balloons make it look like they're saying their own names. The following panel the art is reversed with Dana now on the left and Xina on the right.

Issue: 37

Title: It Tickled When We Kissed

Summary:

Years ago, Miguel and Xina wait in a club with Gabe. His latest girlfriend is late. When she finally shows, Gabe introduces Dana to Miguel and Xina. Miguel is visibly smitten with her. In the present, Venom holds both Xina and Dana and threatens to kill both if Miguel doesn't choose one. Miguel uses his talons and frees Dana by slicing Venom's arm off. After rushing Dana into Tyler Stone's escape exit Miguel goes back to rescue Xina, but Venom has disappeared. Elsewhere, Dana recalls how years ago she and Miguel first "clicked" one evening when Gabe was busy with work. They were then discovered by Xina. Her recollections are interrupted by Venom who recaptures her. Spider-Man chases Venom who now holds both women hostage and forces Xina to drive her classic car. On the road Venom kills various Public Eye flyboys who attempt to capture him. The attacks result in the car going over the edge of the highways. Spider-Man uses his webs to cushion the fall of the car. Venom again grabs the girls and rushes into a nearest building, coincidentally the same club where Miguel, Xina, and Dana all first met. Dana distracts Venom allowing Xina to escape. SHIELD agents arrive on scene an unleash a barrage of gunfire. Their bullets pass harmlessly through Venom and strike Dana instead. Spider-Man rushes to her side and cradles her in his arms. Before dying, Dana tells Miguel she's glad he shaved his beard years back when she asked him to. It tickled when they kissed.

Issue: 38

 

Title: Silent Scream

Summary:

SHIELD agents surround Spider-Man who is cradling Dana's body in his arms. When one of the agents tries to separate him from Dana, Spider-Man lashes out. Medics eventually arrive to take away the body and Spider-Man releases her body, a moment which is captured on television and seen by Conchata. Gabe walks in and Conchata breaks the news of Dana's death to him. When he sees Spider-Man with her body, Gabe becomes angry and breaks the screen before storming away. Later, Miguel returns to Alchemax and begins to examine a piece of Venom in order to find a weakness. After losing his temper and yelling at his research staff, Miguel learns that is reacts to sound. Miguel has a the Private Eye PA system broadcast a high pitched sound. The sound makes Venom powerless as he struggles to maintain his shape. Spider-Man begins to beat him until the symbiote skin peels off and reveals a human host underneath. Spider-Man momentarily hesitates to kill him cold-blooded until he thinks of Dana. He resumes his beating until finally he can see the face of Venom's host.

  • Doom assigns Jake Gallows (Punisher 2099) to investigate the attack on Tyler Stone.


 

Title: Hasta La Vista

Summary:

Tyler Stone tells his son Kron to pack up his things. Outside, Tyler runs into Miguel. Miguel makes a smart remark about how difficult it must be to have him as a father, but admits that his own father is no better and therefore he can't criticize. Tyler apologizes for his son Kron and promises to keep an eye on Miguel.

 

 

 

 

 

Issue: 39

Title: Brother's Keeper

Summary:

In an Alchemax lab, Kron Stone, the human host of Venom is being held. Miguel visits and his scientists tell him that the subject is being uncooperative. Asking to be left alone with Kron, Miguel lets him out and challenges him to one on one combat. If he wins, Kron has to answer all his questions. If Kron wins, he can leave free. Kron attacks believing that Miguel is still the weak boy he knew back in school. To his surprise, Miguel beats him easily. Kron relinquishes and says he will talk, but Miguel isn't interested and continues to beat him up. In Downtown, the Goblin pays a visit to Kasey Nash. He wants to know if she will join him in the fight against Alchemax. She agrees, but when she mentions that they can work with Spider-Man the Goblin leaves stating that he's just a corporate tool, and he will make sure that Spider-Man confesses it publicly. Later, the Goblin meets with Vulture to discuss their plans. Vulture's kidnapping of Kasey and the Goblin's subsequent rescue was all a ruse. Meanwhile, Miguel visits Xina who is still dealing with the ordeal of having almost been killed by Venom and witnessing Dana's death. In her grief, she tells Miguel that he should run Alchemax. Miguel returns to Alchemax where he meets Father Jennifer and learns that she is Dana's sister. Together they watch a recording where Kron explains how he became Venom. Kron recounts how after the Punisher 'killed' him, he threw his body in a sewer. A dying Kron brushed up against the symbiote which had been in the sewers for years waiting for a suitable host. After Father Jennifer leaves, Miguel receives a call from Gabe saying that Spider-Man is needed downtown.

 

Notes:

  • Covers joins together with Doom 2099 # 37, Ghost Rider 2099 #21, and X-Men 2099 #28.
