Latveria would have benefitted from the fees and interest. Since Daredevil has sabotaged this plan, Beltrane holds him responsible for 'fiscal terrorism' against Latveria. Daredevil is then exposed to a gas and released. However when he wrangles Beltrane for answers, the guards surround him and he fights them off. By attacking, he has made himself an enemy of the state is chased out of the castle. On the run, Daredevil quickly realizes that the gas is slowly eliminating all of his senses. Unknown to him, the gas acted as a carrier for small nano-bots which are operating inside his brain. Daredevil makes a desperate attempt to jump over the border. Title - Senseless

Writer - Mark Waid

Summary:

The Latverians hold Daredevil captive. Beltrane orders doctors to study his brain so that they can replicate his radar sense. Still suffering from the effects of the gas which robbed him of his senses, Daredevil's brain begins to compensate in new ways. Recovering rudimentary vision, Daredevil manages to escape from the hospital where he is being held. Latverian soldiers chase him across rooftops. Eventually Daredevil climbs a flagpole, breaks through Doom's signal blanket and sends a distress signal to the Avengers. The Avengers quickly arrive on scene and rescue him from Beltrane and the Latverian forces.

Notes:

  • The order to study Daredevil's radar sense supposedly comes from Doom. Doom would know about Daredevil's radar sense because he experienced it first-hand when they swapped bodies back in Daredevil #37.

  • Collected in Daredevil Volume 3

Comments:

Mark Waid is a damn good writer. You know I really loved his run on Captain America, both of them. I loved Kingdom Come. I don't even read Daredevil and I thoroughly enjoyed these three issues. That's how good he is. Its a shame me and him have differing views on Doctor Doom. Fortunately however, Doom isn't in these three issues. So the odd remark aside, this was a good read. Still, in the absence of any Doom (for which I am very grateful), there's nothing here for Doom fans except a good Daredevil story. Note how Doom is put on the cover of not only the cover to #14, but also the cover of the TPB. What does that tell you? Doom sells. Nuff said. Bottom Line: N/A
